Information for Authors
Information for Authors
A comprehensive guide to preparing and submitting your manuscript to Scalable Computing: Practice and Experience (SCPE).
Quick Links
1. Submission Process
Manuscripts for SCPE should be submitted online via our Open Journal Systems (OJS) portal. The submitting author, who is generally the corresponding author, is responsible for the manuscript during the submission and peer-review process.
We welcome submissions prepared in both Microsoft Word and LaTeX. To expedite the review process, authors are encouraged to format their manuscripts as close to the journal style as possible, though strict formatting is only mandatory upon acceptance.
2. Accepted Article Types
SCPE invites the following types of manuscripts for peer review:
Research Articles
Research articles should present original, scientifically sound research that adds significant new information to the field of scalable and distributed computing. There are no strict page limits, but manuscripts should be concise and comprehensive enough to thoroughly present the methodology, experiments, and results.
Reviews
Reviews offer a comprehensive analysis of the existing literature, highlighting current trends, identifying gaps, and suggesting future directions. They should be structured logically and cite a broad spectrum of relevant literature. We welcome reviews from established experts as well as emerging researchers in the field.
Scoping Reviews
Scoping reviews map the existing literature in a specific subfield. Authors submitting a Scoping Review are strongly advised to adhere to the PRISMA-ScR guidelines and provide a completed checklist alongside their submission.
3. Manuscript Preparation & Templates
To provide a seamless authoring experience, we provide official templates for both Microsoft Word and LaTeX. You may choose the platform you are most comfortable with.

Use our pre-formatted templates to structure your manuscript effortlessly.
LaTeX (Overleaf) Microsoft Word Download LaTeX ZIPImportant Formatting Rules:
- Equations: Do not use
\scaleboxor\resizeboxto shrink equations. Use\begin{split}for long formulas. - Tables: Use three-line tables (via the
booktabspackage). Vertical lines (|) are strictly prohibited.
4. Manuscript Structure
Different article types require different structural organizations. However, all manuscripts must begin with a standardized Front Matter.
- Title: Should be concise, specific, and relevant.
- Author List and Affiliations: Full names, affiliations, and emails. ORCID identifiers are highly encouraged.
- Abstract: A single paragraph of roughly 200–250 words. It must stand alone, summarizing the background, methods, results, and conclusion.
- Keywords: 3 to 6 pertinent keywords.
Structure for Research Articles
- 1. Introduction: Contextualize the study, state the research problem, and outline your core contributions.
- 2. Materials and Methods: Describe the algorithms, data, and experimental setup in sufficient detail to allow reproducibility.
- 3. Results: Present your findings clearly using tables and high-resolution figures.
- 4. Discussion: Interpret the results in perspective of previous studies and the working hypotheses.
- 5. Conclusions: Summarize the study and propose future directions.
Structure for Reviews
Review articles do not require the standard "Methods" and "Results" sections. They should be structured logically with an Introduction, followed by relevant Thematic Sections (using clear headings and subheadings to organize the literature), and end with a Conclusion.
5. Open Access and Article Processing Charges (APC)
SCPE is a fully Open Access journal. All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0), meaning they are immediately and freely available to read, download, and share globally.
To provide this free access to readers and to cover the costs of rigorous peer review, professional copyediting, typesetting, and long-term digital archiving, an Article Processing Charge (APC) applies to manuscripts accepted after peer review.
Waiver and Discount Policy
SCPE is committed to promoting equitable access to open science. We recognize that authors from low- and middle-income countries (as defined by the World Bank) may face financial barriers. In such cases, SCPE may grant APC waivers or discounts.
- Discretionary Right: Please note that all waivers and discounts are granted on a case-by-case basis at the sole discretion of the Publisher.
- Application Timing: Authors must request a waiver prior to the submission of their manuscript. Requests made during the review process or after acceptance will not be considered.
- Editorial Independence: To uphold strict publishing ethics, editors and reviewers are kept completely blind to any APC payment or waiver status. The decision to accept or reject a manuscript is based exclusively on its academic merit.
6. Research Ethics & Malpractice
We uphold strict ethical standards. Submissions will be subject to desk rejection if they:
- Fall completely outside the journal's aims and scope.
- Exhibit significant text overlap with previously published works (all manuscripts undergo automated plagiarism detection via iThenticate/Turnitin).
- Contain fabricated data, or are submitted to multiple journals simultaneously.
